VMD4Kids Test Developed by Doctors at Children's Hospital Los Angeles Uncovers Genes Causing Vascular Anomalies, Shortening Path to Targeted Treatments

For children with certain vascular anomalies, diagnosing gene mutations that cause the disorder could provide a path to targeted treatments to slow or stop the progression of their condition. But these growth disorder mutations were scattered haphazardly throughout children's bodies and had wildly irregular effects, making it challenging to pin down their activity. Children's Hospital Los Angeles developed and validated the VMD4Kids (Vascular and Mosaic Diseases for Kids) test to identify the genes that drive this diverse group of vascular anomalies and mosaic disorders. The test has become the go-to test for clinics across the U.S. for difficult-to-diagnose vascular, lymphatic, and overgrowth disorders.
